IRA CHARITABLE DONATIONS

Make an Impact Through Your IRA

Giving from your IRA or retirement account is a powerful and effective way to support people in need and contribute positively to the improvement of your local community. In addition to making a meaningful impact, it may also provide you with valuable tax benefits that can enhance your financial planning.

Understanding Qualified Charitable Distributions

A qualified charitable distribution, or QCD, allows individuals 70½ or older to give directly from their IRA to a nonprofit in a tax-free way. Each year, supporters can transfer up to $108,000 from their IRA straight to a qualified charity without the amount being counted as taxable income. Because the funds never pass through your hands, a QCD is often one of the most tax-efficient ways to give.

Beginning at age 73, IRA owners must take a required minimum distribution (RMD). These withdrawals are normally taxable, but a QCD lets you use your charitable gift to satisfy all or part of your RMD while avoiding added taxable income.

A QCD is a simple and strategic option for those who want to steward their resources well and make a direct, meaningful impact on the mission of Project H.O.O.D.
